APPG for Tourism report on the impact of the sharing economy on the UK tourism industry

Sharing Economy UK has responded to the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tourism, Leisure and the Hospitality Industry's inquiry and report into the Sharing Economy

A Sharing Economy UK spokesperson said:

“The sharing economy uses the power of technology to empower people to trade their stuff, space and skills. Broadening consumer choice through innovation is an important and popular part of our economy, creating new opportunities that are valued by many.

“While this report recognises the industry’s independently-awarded TrustSeal, it doesn’t acknowledge other industry initiatives and proactive steps peer-to-peer accommodation platforms are taking to keep consumers safe. Some recommendations will concern sharing economy firms, including the introduction of a statutory registration scheme, which would increase costs for customers with yet to be defined benefits. Sharing Economy UK will continue to work with its members and policymakers to support the development of the industry.”
