Chamber hosts second annual Circular Economy Conference in June

The Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce is taking the lead in promoting and supporting the ‘Circular Economy’, by holding its second annual conference dedicated to this fast growing global economic model on Thursday 16 June at BRE in Watford.

The Circular Economy aims to decouple production from the consumption of finite resources, which both minimises the amount of resources that are extracted and maximises the value of products and materials throughout their lifecycles. It boils down to redesigning production, distribution, consumption, reuse or repair and recycling back into production – completing the full circle.

Impressive line-up of speakers

Sponsored by BRE (who are hosting the event) and JPA Furniture (who have installed second life and/or remanufactured furniture at BRE’s offices), the conference has an impressive line-up of speakers and experts who will be talking about both the Circular and Sharing Economies, from an environmental, efficiency and sustainability viewpoint. Cranfield University are also sponsoring the conference and will be showcasing their MSc in the Circular Economy.

Who should attend?

This practical, insightful and interactive conference is relevant to any business wanting to increase their productivity and efficiency and is open to considering new economic models such as the sharing economy for sustainability and growth. As both the Circular and Sharing economy business models save resources and money, it is no longer just about the environment, but also how to obtain commercial advantage, achieve business success and support CSR and sustainability agendas.

Richard Potter, Sopra Steria’s Director of Innovation will Chair this Environmental, Sustainability and Innovation conference, introduce the keynote speakers and facilitate two interactive panel discussions.

Keynote speakers are Benita Matofska, founder of The People Who Share, will explain what is meant by the ‘Sharing Economy’ and Dr Mariale Moreno, Research Fellow in Sustainable Consumption and Production at Cranfield University, will take a holistic view of the Circular Economy.

Panel experts include representatives from BRE, UH Rebus, Altro, Go Travel Solutions, Epson (UK), Johnson Matthey, Linde Material Handling East and The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Yolanda Rugg, Chief Executive of the Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce, said “We are delighted that BRE has offered to host this second annual conference on the Circular Economy. This year, building on the success of last year’s conference, through our carefully selected panel of experts we aim to deliver insightful tips which delegates can take away to implement into their own businesses and organisations in order to deliver increased efficiencies and implement practical sustainability models”.
