Achieving a Net-0 Future with the Sharing Economy
This week, the CBI hosted their Achieving Net 0 Conference virtually. The UK’s 2050 net-zero target is ambitious. Business and government must work together to seize the opportunities from the transition to clean technologies and achieve this target.
Ali Clabburn, CEO of our member company Liftshare, spoke about the changing nature of travel and ensuring consumers can still make the choices needed to make net-zero happen. Ali was joined by Juliet Davenport, CEO of Good Energy and Sharon Thorne, Global Board Chair of Deloitte on the panel moderated by Mary-Ann Ochota.
A transport revolution will be driven by the changes in our behaviour as a result of Covid.
Ali said:
“If we are to hit a net 0 future, we need to get 0 carbon commuting a reality for everyone by 2040 , and for many of us by 2030.”
How businesses Can Cut Emissions
Ali gave advice to other SME business owners on how to cut emissions. In 2018, Liftshare took on the ambitious goal of cutting their emissions by 50% within a year. By identifying their emissions and making effective changes, Liftshare managed to cut their emissions by 60% at no extra cost.

“The great thing about small businesses is we're agile and we can move quickly. Every business would be silly not to take action on this and it really isn't complicated. You can act quickly, work out where your emissions are. If you're looking at your commuter emissions, there are tools online where you can calculate your emissions, such as your ACEL score which takes 5 mins. Then set targets to reduce it.”
